Mega Combat Bug
So there's a pretty epic bug in NEO Scavenger right now.
I wanted to take a look at a few gameplay bugs this morning, and started with one that caused combat to crash, making the game unplayable. After a few rounds of testing, it was obvious this was not your run of the mill bug. It was causing all kinds of weird issues, generally resulting in an unstable game after it happened (crashing combat, endless turns, etc.). What's worse, it seems to crash in different ways each time I find it.
This is both good and bad news. The good news is that I think this is the bug that's causing many of the hard-to-reproduce weirdness being reported in the forums.
The bad news is that, after a full day of debugging, I still don't know how to fix it. In fact, I'm having a hard time forcing it to happen reliably. The best that I can tell is that it happens when creatures leave a battle. I think it's something to do with the game thinking a creature is in one battle, but they're actually in another (or no battle at all).
The summary is: I've pretty much dropped everything else to look into this bug. The deeper I dig, the bigger it looks, and it could really help fix stability issues if I can get to the root of it.
As the day comes to a close here, I'll have to admit defeat for now. I'll be back for round two tomorrow, though. Wish me luck!
