Tip: 'Backing up' your save.

You can open up two instances (Or more if you want to feel extra safe) of the game and load your game. Then, pause the duplicate(s) and play on your normal game.

Downsides:

  • If you died and exit from your backups/browser, your saves are GONE.
  • Could be fixed by Dan in the future (I hope it isn't a priority! *wink* )
  • You have to do the same every time you save on your main.

Upsides:

  • If you die from a stupid reason/you didn't want to die, you can start back at your last duplicated save!
  • You can have 'multiple' saves
  • Test different scenarios on your saves without paying for consequences

ALTERNATIVELY you can go to

on a Windows XP PC:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\<random string>\bluebottlegames.com\main\sites\all\themes\genesis_bbg\includes\neoscavenger\NEOScavenger.swf\nsSGv1.sol

on a Windows 7 PC they are stored at:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\<random string>\bluebottlegames.com\main\sites\all\themes\genesis_bbg\includes\neoscavenger\NEOScavenger.swf\nsSGv1.sol

on a Mac they can be found here:
Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Preferences:Macromedia:Flash Player:#SharedObjects:<random string>:bluebottlegames.com:main:sites:all:themes:genesis_bbg:includes:neoscavenger:NEOScavenger.swf\nsSGv1.sol

NOTE: If you use Chrome, then THIS IS WHERE the save games are stored! IMPORTANT!
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\WritableRoot\#SharedObjects\*random string*\bluebottlegames.com\main\sites\all\themes\genesis_bbg\includes\neoscavenger\NEOScavenger.swf

(Thanks to this comment by Dan for the locations!)

and copy the files there. Whenever you die, replace!

If you don't have hidden files enabled, to get to AppData, go to your start menu, search for 'run.' Open 'run' and type in %appdata% then follow the files to your destination! Enjoy.

Hey Coconutsales,
Thanks for posting this! I was having problems with my save file and Dan helped me get it figured out. I've been wondering if this was possible in case I died from a game bug, like my fatal diarrhea a while back, but i didnt want to bother Dan with it seeing as how he allready spent some time trouble shooting my save problem. I think it would be nice to have or create a backup after plot encounters. So like once you make it to the glow you could have a backup at that point so you allways start at the main gate instead of at the cryo. Would that work?

Can i put the backup save or a copy of the save where ever i want? And when I died just copy and paste it to the save location after the game over screen?

Also can I rename the save file whatever I want? If so i could have different character builds with save files right?

Would the developer consider this cheating or making the experience cheap if you allways started at the glow instead of haveing to fight it out from the cryo? It would definately take away some of the tension and make the experience cheaper for me if I knew no matter what I did I wouldnt have to start over in a hospital gown in the middle of no where. I guess thats for the players to decide for themselves. N e ways just my thoughts.

Thanks!!

Actually, I was making myself believe in (Unknown) false information.

STICK TO THE TAB METHOD! The files one apparently isn't for save data. (I'll keep scrounging around until I find the correct directory though!)

And in my own world, I find it not cheating as there is no multi-player, the story line isn't completed, and hell, it's single-player. Who cares if you do a little exploit to prevent stupid matters from happening! (Same deal with Minecraft IMO. It isn't cheating if it is single-player)

Save files located! :D

OK Thanks for the info I might start keeping a backup. And your right about the game being unfinished and all. If the game were multiplayer and a cheat is used then you are cheating the people you play with out of a fair experience. If the game is single player and a cheat or exploit is used then your cheating yourself out of the intended experience. But like i said thats up to each individual player to decide.

Updated for Chrome users! :D

Where are the save files located, and how to save them?

I would like to be able to turn off the PC and play the game next time I turn it on.

The only way saving works for me is pressing F5 to refresh the browser before the GAME OVER screen.

You save the game by pressing 'Menu' in the top left corner, and clicking 'Save & Quit.'

And, the save file locations are in the original post. Depending on your OS, the location is different, so pick the one that matches accordingly.

@pointsource - You should be able to save+quit, close the browser (or shut off the PC), and load the game later. That was the use case for which save games was added (so we could basically pause the game and come back later).

However, savegames are deleted when the player dies. If you can't save+quit, shut down, and load the game later, let me know!

Ok, been trying to look this up and find my save file. NO LUCK.
I'm computer savvy, so i know there has to be something wrong, or different.
here are my computer stats

-Win7 -Adobe Flash Player 13.0 r0

-Steam ,Loaded on D drive

Well using info from and replying to a two year old thread from before it was even out on Steam isn't going to help much.

Use the sticky thread in the technical help section: http://bluebottlegames.com/main/node/762

Basically it's:
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\RandomString\PathToGame\NEOScavenger.exe\nsSGv1.sol

Using Gog version can't see to find my saves anywhere

In the deepest night , there's only shadow

Thanks for sharing, very helpful and informative.
