It Happened Again!

Looks like that name I was crowing about yesterday is also already another game. This one not-yet-released, but legit enough to warrant a course correction. I mean, it's great to be discovering this all now rather than after I've launched. Saves me the trouble of rebranding and confusing fans. But still. Sheesh! I can't seem to win on this one.

Back to the drawing board.

In better news, I actually got a bit more mobile bug fixing done today. I managed to solve a bug that prevented ingredients from being removed when reverse-crafting, added a way for touchscreen users to toggle stack/single item mode (via context menu for now). I also made a few tweaks so that this was still compatible with the desktop version (since this will likely be NS2's engine).

It felt good to be solving a few things. I definitely needed some victories to raise the spirits.

That game title, though. Man! Let's see if fresh ideas come to me over the weekend. Have a good one, all!

Do you think something like "NEO: Space Odyssey" would fit for the title?

Hmm, there maybe an infringement there.

NEO Scavenger has a gloomy atmosphere with horror elements, it induces a feeling of lostness. Do you want the same for the space game or something different?

Hard luck but like you said better now...

@Asthepanda2iscool2, I'll have to agree with matsy here. "Space Odyssey" would probably land me in trouble :)

@Malacodor, the space game will be the same atmosphere and tone, with a few differences. For example, the player may have multiple crew members as opposed to a lone protagonist, so the loneliness may be diminished. But I want it to maintain the same stark amorality and coldness of its terrestrial counterpart. I'm thinking along the lines of Alien, where we have blue collar protagonists, corporate antagonists, and some elements of mystery and horror in the gaps and fringes.

@matsy, the "Pilot" is an interesting angle. But as I've said in earlier posts, I want to be careful not to use "NEO" as the sole franchise identifier, since it would run afoul of other IPs.

Yeah I know that using that name would get you in a bit of trouble, what I meant was what if you used something along those lines. Although I doubt you'll be able to get such a simple title since people have been making computer games longer than I've been alive, with all sorts of titles stemming from copy right issues.

Rar! Rar rar rar! Thanks for reading :)

Okay, after some heavy brainstorming I came up with a number of names, that hopefully won't have any copyright issues:

I have a mouth, and I cannot breathe
Ten Men's Sky
Startcraft
Wing Commando
Ellie N.
Faster to Orion
The Secret of Monkey Planet
The Welder Strolls: Skybrim
Slower Than Light
Hello
Fireflea
The Scavengers: Rage of Fedor
Boatmen Begin
Moon Sailors
Beyond a Steel Sky

Have you thought about what you would call your first ship? And maybe call the game that? I know you're big fan of Firefly, and that would be a fitting tribute.

@Malacodor, ha! Now we're talking. Don't forget Full Out, 1337: D4N63R0U5, and Star Permanent Resident!

@matsy, I haven't yet. Though in the imaginary world where I'll have the time to add all the features I want, players will start in different situations each time :)

I just saw this as I was looking at the news I missed lol but when you mean different scenarios, do you mean a random scenario each time you play with different people? Like a group of miners in one scenario and maybe a ship of people with different professions on another ship?

@spacemedic, yeah. Maybe start as down-on-their-luck smugglers one game, and hopelessly-mortgaged mining crew the next. NEO Scavenger definitely suffered from cryo facility boredom after the first few plays, so having different ways of starting might avoid that. Plus, it might encourage different play styles.

But it's all "pie in the sky" until I find the time to do it :)
