Website and Mobile Work, and OOO

Hey Folks! Not much to report on the gamedev side today. Mostly spent time on website planning and mobile development. Though, both are approaching some really interesting milestones.

The website is now in the design phase, and we're going over font and color scheme treatments, and have most pages wireframed. Soon, we may start having some cool mockups!

And on the mobile side, Tiago is focusing on smaller bugs, as well as getting an iOS version running. It'll be interesting to see how it feels on a 10" iPad with a 4:3 screen, since all testing so far has been PC emulation, or widescreen Android smartphone/tablet.

Out of Office

Also, I'll be out of the office tomorrow until August 3rd, so my next post will likely be the 4th. I'll have internet access while away, and will try to check in periodically. Have a good week, everyone, and talk to you next Thursday!

If you need an iOS tester, especially one with a legacy device, an iPad 2 with the latest OS, I would love to help.

Thanks, Galahir950! So far, I haven't needed any external testers (the contractor dev has a variety of devices). But if I decide to open up testing to external folks, I'll keep you in mind!

@layarion, are you still having issues starting new topics? If so, let me know, and I can check the site logs to see if it's throwing any errors around the time of your attempts.

As for the PM system, it's a bit different now. You can contact a user through their contact page, and it'll email them behind the scenes.

Yes, still having the issue.

Whenever i attempt to create a new forum page in the website suggestions page i get a 403 error. Saying Forbidden, i don't have permissions and that sort of thing.

@layarion, a ha! Looks like you're running afoul of an overzealous security plugin on the site. Basically, it looks for certain keywords in a post to see if it might be a hacking attempt, and if it finds too many or in a certain order, it 403 forbids the post.

Did your post contain one or more of the following terms? (separated by hyphens to avoid tripping plugin)

a-l-t-e-r
c-r-e-a-t-e
d-r-o-p
c-o-l-u-m-n
d-a-t-a-b-a-s-e
p-r-o-c-e-d-u-r-e
t-a-b-l-e
d-e-l-e-t-e
u-p-d-a-t-e

If so, removing one or two instances is sometimes all it takes. The new website should hopefully avoid this issue, but in the meantime, we have to use that careful word selection/trimming workaround.

i will take a took, and as for the website...

can i get more involved in helping you make it? i got this long imagined list in my head of what makes a good forum page. most of it is formatting.

I even have a list in the suggestions page that's old and you've seen it. but i got more to add to it

update: ya i had update in there 3 times. just changes it to up-date and it worked.

Glad to hear it worked!

And as for getting involved in the website upgrade, I've actually hired a web design/development firm to handle it. They're basically handling everything and asking me to approve each step along the way, so I'm fairly hands-off right now.

The good news, however, is that they've checked out the existing forums, and specifically the recommendations from you and other users, and taken that into account in their work. So I'm expecting a lot of what you and others have suggested will be covered (or redundant if they fix certain design flaws).

Also, I'll still be able to change stuff after the redesign. But I'm willing to let them run with it for now, since their existing work portfolio was of good quality.
