(Request) Followers? Please?

I just signed up and upon realizing that followers were likely never coming to the base game I had a great idea (and literally the only reason I signed up to the forums). I would like to request a follower mod. Nothing fancy, literally, just the ability to have a follower. Now if someone would like to make a more in depth mod then I would gladly download that as well of course. I just want a follower. I had this ... Scenario play out while playing. You see, I saved this melonhead from a very angry angry man and I really wanted him to be a follower afterwards. I was terribly sad when I realized that wasn't going to happen. Any chance anyone out there could make my dream come true?? If something like this already exists can someone link me to the location where it is?

That is not possible, due to the engine limitations. There is simply no way to make a companion that would resemble, in any way, another living creature.

Sadly as he said, it is impossible with current limitations, there is however a way to make your companion an Item, which I am doing for hunting dogs and I think from what I have seen, you can summon creatures from items(Don't quote me) they however wont follow you, though now that I think of it, if I can find the code that turns the wraith into a semi follower(It surrounds you and stays just out of reach) I might be able to make patrols if you reduce the radius.

You know, I wonder if there may be a way to fake it now that some of the recent condition features were added.

Making an item-based follower is definitely one approach. It wouldn't roam the map independently, but you could give the equipped item a map sprite that looks like a critter on the player's shoulder, or trailing behind. The item could drain more food/water per turn when equipped. It could even grant battlemoves, or increased sleep awareness.

It wouldn't be perfect, but might pass for something like a pet or familiar.

Also, the same features that King Eli/Queen Liza use might be useful in faking a follower. Namely, they can have waypoints set, and trigger their own encounters when reaching those waypoints. And those triggered encounters can have their own triggered conditions, precondition checks, spawned creatures, loot, etc.

Plus, I've never experimented with making a creature with the same faction ID as the player. In theory, if the player had a higher morale, the AI creatures sharing player's faction would follow them. And even non-player factions that are friendly to the player will fight common foes, even if they don't follow.

I'm not promising it'll work. of course :) But there are some tools in the toolbox that might do a good job of faking the outcome you want.

This was my idea for the hunting dog, it allows better scavenging, and allows you to be more aware(Dogs bark and can hear much better when you are asleep), they would be maybe a ring or something, I wasn't sure how else to properly implement them other then a leash as a wrist band. I am messing around with the idea, maybe a horse can be used as a vehicle. Again, I wanted to know if an item can consume items on the ground/ inventories, because you can make "Animal food" or something like that. That AI thing is interesting, I might have to play around with it, I haven't gotten to far into it yet.
