The Makeshifter Mod!


* Currently working on porting this mod to the new game mod system, please be patient though, its been a long time since I've been modding so I'm all rusty and need an oil change or something but I'll get back into a smooth groove eventually and can start adding *NEW!* stuff to the mod which I consider the fun part of modding *

Ok so heres what ive done to this mod:
I uploaded everything into the folder
I relaunched the game
Heres where Sh** hit the fan,
I didnt have the picture only a red cross
I fully filled the laptop battery with charge but it wont shoot,I got gun downed by dmc after doing so,
Is this still WIP

yeah damn, very WIP, I'm trying to figure out why it won't fire, but I don't understand why the graphic isn't showing up, that should work if you just copy and paste the img folder, getnames.php and neogame.xml into your neo scavenger folder and overwrite the files.

The MelonHead Killer: did you start a new game? or load an old save onto the mod? Also I recommend starting a new game when using a mod

Ok so i updated mod, I have everythin to build it BUT laptop battery i cant find it anywhere, any laptops in junk market are batteryless, and it seems as if they were removed or what not

From what I've seen during my playthroughs, the junk often sells ipads, islabs and laptops without batteries, but sometimes they sell the batteries without the ipads, islabs and laptops too ;q

Just keep checking in on the Junk market, it resets about 2-3 turns after night-time everyday.

A sweet little add to the mod, makes you harder to see :) You can only get this tunic if you have the hiding skill and craft it yourself.
You'll find leafy sticks here and there and when you use/craft forests for lumber stuffs

Can I request adding a new items and recipes ? I just saw nice tutorial video on youtube about making plate gauntlets with metal sheet, then I get an idea... why don't you add makeshift plate armor to you mod ? Plate gauntlets can require medium metal sheet, melee skill, Aviation skips, patchwork glove and 5 small threads (and maybe mechanic skill too if this is not expensive enough.). What do you think about that ? I also suggest to decrease spawn rate of metal sheets.

So added a pot helmet and a fire axe... There's something that I been wanting to add to this mod for a while but I been putting it off... more cryo lab/camp related stuff/accessories.

I wanted to add - A makeshift Oven, some irrigation, like troughs from a water source, a water purifier, mmm some kinda energy source, I'm thinking solar panels or something. maybe even wind turbines not quite sure yet. Camouflage netting to make your camp/base better hidden. Lockers! for more storage. A makeshift jury rigged cryo freezer, wow lots of stuff.

Problem is, a lot of these ideas are going to be extremely difficult to impossible, but I think I'll start working on the easiest ones first hehe until I get enough courage to try the more ambitious ones.

Anyway, I know alot of people are waiting for the next mod-merge, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about it, I'll get the next version out soon, hopefully by friday! Just waiting for more content ;) I reckon it'd be better to get a bigger update than a speedier one, you know?

k kewl man, mmm it should be fixed now, not 100% certain about the fluid usage but I changed it so the lighter uses 1 fluid per use as well as 1 per hour while equiped

I am bummed out that this and mod merge get stuck at 49% (48% for the merge mod) just wanted to try it out.

my best guess is its a limit with flash on linux. since we are stuck at 11.

Playing around with gimp and pixel art again lol... now that it seems like the most crippling bugs in mod merge v.05 have been dealt with (mostly, hopefully)

Decided to start with a liquid nitrogen cannister... trying to decide the best way to salvage stuff from the cryo-lab for a makeshift freezer
then I'm probably going to have to make sprites for all the food items in the game for their "frozen state" *sigh* why oh why do I do this too myself

Made some electrical parts... took forever, eh, it sorta looks like what its supposed to...

I have a feeling I'm over complicating stuff for my makeshift cryogenic flash freezer lol... I'm probably going to have to add a science skill for this. After reading up(scrolling, vaguely squinting over) some sciencey smarty stuff I decided to make some metal tube coils ;p

Annd... deciding to simplify things a bit, I added a HiTech Liquid Nitrogen Circulator pump >.<

Now to figure out a recipe and how to go about acquiring these wonderful new objects :q oh yeah, I still have to draw the Makeshift Cryo Flash Freezer too :O

And yeah, so I made a sprite for the Cryo Flash Freezer... mmm looks alright even if I do type so myself. But I just realised before I can get to work on the tables for this bad boy I gotta work on camp power :S damn, oh well, more sprite fun!

EmperorZA, just make the cooler require electrical and mechanical both, that would cover MORE than enough technical knowledge to use pre-existing parts to make a freezer unit. No need for new skills, and it adds usefulness to the two most wimpy skills in the game.

Hey, I'm having a problem starting the game after installing this mod, I don't use modmerge and I use Windows 7. It gets stuck at 49% when it's parsing image files. Anyway I can fix this?

not entirely sure, it could be something to do with getimages.php or maybe a missing .png file in the img folder :S mmm I'm gonna do some testing and see which it is, maybe I didn't include a file or something in the mod.

Example for ideas, easiest one its just add more wild animals, like boars/hogs, bobcats, elks?
More monstrous maybe chemical wash monster, it can be used as dialogue encounter (something like dog-be-gone) And start after 3+ hexes walked in chemical wash. It can look something like zombie mixed with typical old horror swamp monster.

We can also think about more things from mythologies or folklore. There is like ton of freaking strange monster:
Skin-walkers,boo-hag, and lot more.
Or maybe some easter egg character like some strange guy walking forever and looking for book (book of eli ;p)

Elk should be relative ease just add antlers to deer sprite. Im clueless how work battle mechanism from game side not gonna suggest anything outside of obvious.

I though you gonna make freezer as locker what stored things degrade slower. Gonna check it by self anyway

Anyway fun fact I killed Merga wraith after dunno 10-15 tries (each 30+ shoots) and by makeshift lazer rifle :D
Now I try to kill sniper, but its hard because they disappear after 3-5 turns

Now strap for lazer rifle ;p

BTW there is bug with DMC guards, those with shotguns don't use them and they AI is strange because they run to 2 range and try to run away its practically loop. Pistol don't drop, not sure if isn't chiko mod just saying.

not sure 100% sure if you need to start a new game, but when you scavenge a location, you'll now randomly see a library to scavenge from (among the abandoned office tower, shed, etc) in urban areas

After that update I can't find any aviation snips.

yeah I fixed that, in the previous versions it had a chance of dropping 2 hammers instead of a chance of dropping a hammer or/and aviation snips lol (new version link in the main/first post)

I can't add a delete all function (I think that is hard coded) BUT mmm I can suggest what's already in the game, if you hold down the letter 3 and click on an item, it destroys it! also if you hold down the letter 2 and click on an item it uses that item, good for eating many berries. mmm but you might have already known that :( I can't be much more help that that though

Yeah but after collecting lighter and crowbar (+strong) you have like shitload of loot from every scavenge after 5-6 ingame days I have problem with deleting all the one/two space crap like peebles etc even 10 boots to delete start to be annoying when you need to do that everytime you want to scavenge because if you won't get place you won't get new loot. Gonna write topic in suggestion board about this.

So because of all the loot in the game now I want to start working on vehicles or a vehicle at least lol

I made a couple sprites leading up to the end product... my sprites aren't very beautiful though, I might have to redo the old lawnmower and small motor, it looks terrible. The cannister and portable plasma cutter and welder I borrowed from the web and just fabulized it a bit, or pixelized it lol

The portable plasma cutter and welder can be worn in the backpack slot I'm thinking and maybe it will let you make gears out of a stack of medium metal sheets or something

I'm not sure yet what I'm gonna do for the seat and steering wheel/or handlebars of the go-kart yet, also I'm thinking of adding a go-kart trailer lol so it will be multi-tool+ 2mechanical parts + go-kart + go-kart trailer = go-kart+trailer

I want to make it so that with the trailer you won't get extra moves but you'll can carry more while it's 'equipped'

mmm I'm gonna have to add petrol/gas station scavenge locations for petrol, maybe some shock absorbers and tools and other things, brake discs lol

I have to remember also to do all this in such a way that I can later add a makeshift dune buggy and other vehicles as well hmm quite a challenge

Edit: Also, I'm thinking that for the portable plasma cutter and welder, I'm gonna make it a Unique Item... I'm thinking of an encounter type scenario where the choices you make could most likely get you gruesomely maimed/killed/dismembered/possibly eaten or if you use your skills successfully, reward you (with just a few scars to tell the tale)

About petrol gas, you could just change lighter fuel to petrol (because even in real life it is petrol xD) and nerfind probability still there is like ton of it.

With new stuff like wires and electronic parts you should update some recipes.

yeah that's been on my mind lol, there's just so much stuff I need to change and update. I'm busy working on a toolkit with its own use dialogue (like the laptop) except you can use the toolkit to repair tools and weapons back to 100% if you have mechanical knowledge, then I can get back to the go-kart and those component and recipe updates
