The number that tells you your range from an enemy.

What does it mean? I get that it is the distance to the other guy, but is it meters, feet, inches?

I don't want to say "thanks in advance" and jinx myself, but... Thanks in advance!

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say feet, seeing as you can whack someone with a crowbar up to two spaces away. If that were meters then everyone would have some freaky long arms.

Really it's probably not anything other than a data point.

OK cool, I was thinking the same thing, but I wanted to ask all the same.

My best guess in that matter is that it is a unit without any set length, but a growing one instead (each next distance number is bigger than the one before), like a triangular number (or something similar). Like: 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21, 28, 36, 45, 55, ... It makes more sense on larger distances.

I believe it is more or less like Kaaven says. Provided I recall the news correctly, the values aren't meant to correspond to some 'official' units of length, merely be relative to themselves to create a working and balanced attack range for each weapon type.
