Hatter's iSlabs

Spoiler Alert: This post is filled with spoiler stuff. If you're new to the game, go play for a while. We'll wait.

Anyway, if you have the Electrician skill, you can offer to gather up 3 iSlabs for Hatter in exchange for the DMC pass.

Does anyone actually take this route? I've tried it a couple times. I've never succeeded. By the time I find a second iSlab and get in back to the city, I've enough cash to just buy myself a DMC pass. And there are other, much easier options. (Why would anyone not take Trapping?)

Maybe I'm just unlucky in tracking down iSlabs. Maybe I'm missing something. But right now it seem the iSlab route isn't very useful. Either it's too difficult, or the other routes are too easy. I'd like to hear other people's opinions on this.

It was added to the game back when iSlabs were nothing more than a treasures to sell for $60. They were much more common then. Now when they are actually useful, and can possibly bring quite a wealth, it's good that they are way less common. That story branch, however, became mostly redundant because, like you said EcchiKitty, unless player is very lucky with finding those things, by the time he has three he already did the Urn quest or simply bought the pass.

I'd sorta like to take the route still, just to see the results for myself and say I did it. For curiousity sake, if you buy yourself a DMC pass, head into the city, get some medical help, exit the city, sell your DMC pass, and then try to enter the city, will it trigger Hatter's arrival? Will Hatter still wait around for iSlabs if you head into the city on a bought pass?

In short, how much do I need to hold off to still finish the 'quest'?

I can see finishing the quest that way feeling very rewarding right now.

And to be fair I never tried to buy the pass enter the city and then sell it off, so I don't know if the Hatter arrives in that situation. Must try and find it out :D

Well, I just did some quick testing. Avoided the DMC entrance, looted a bunch of stuff, bought a pass at the Junk Market, went into the DMC, got my myopia fixed, came out, sold the pass, and tried to head back inside.

Hatter -did- show up and offered me a job like normal. I'll fiddle around with the game a little more and see what else can be done.

As cool as it is, it sounds like a bug. Forged, second hand ID papers should not be acquired on for-rent basis...

It should be possible for an Electrician to use laptop screens as well.

Ran around with a clown mask before it was cool

Finally finished this Quest, with way more effort than it's really worth. Had over $11,000 to spend inside the DMC by the time I found a third iSlab. So, mark it off my checklist, and I am content.

-HOWEVER-, I did find a bug. After using the iSlabs for Hatter, I got the DMC pass... and the iSlabs were still in my inventory. Pretty confidant I shouldn't still have those. By this point isn't exactly a game changer, but still.

This bug seems to be the same with Zom Zoms. After paying the toll you seem to keep the item in your inventory, this seems to be a bug with the transaction of items. Probally best to just delete the items afterwords intill it is resolved.

Interesting discussion! I wonder if the iSlabs are not common enough now? Part of me thinks that they're an item which would be ubiquitous junk. However, I also don't want to flood the economy just for the heck of it.

I've made a note to myself about Hatter and ZZ's not taking the items from your inventory. I thought I fixed those bugs, but maybe I missed them (or they've regressed). While I'm in there, perhaps I can make Hatter also accept laptops, which might alleviate the difficulty in finding 3 items.

As for the ID bracelet being sold back to the market, this is a tough call. On one hand, I can see the market wanting such an item. After all, it's a visitor pass, not a citizen pass. It's a bracelet explicitly for the purpose of being able to take it off when done and give to the next visitor. They'll have to do some forging to make it valid again, but functioning visitor passes still have value.

However, it definitely shouldn't be sold back to the market for the buying price!

That is also a problem with the DMC Pass that player can acquire from the White Lady.

Spoiler: Highlight to view
I am assuming that discovering it is faulty should be a sudden, unexpected problem. However, all that player has to do is walk one hex lower from the Gate, and exchange it for the working one on the Market (without investing a single $). It makes the whole endeavour somewhat pointless.
