Saves not working

First of all i just wanted to point out that i love the game, but I have a problem, I cannot save my game.
Whevener i try to save my game all it does is say: "Error: Unable to access save data location."
I tried to right click and change the adobe flash player settings to unlimited local storage but it keeps reverting to None.

Im on Windows 64 bit and using the steam version v.0992b 12/17/2013

Did you try starting the game with admin rights?

Ran around with a clown mask before it was cool

Well, im using steam so im not really sure how i would start with admin rights

EDIT: I changed the settings so that I launched steam in admin mode and it still did not work.

Hm, that "reverting to None" definitely seems like it could be an issue. If Flash is set to disallow any save data for NEO Scavenger, that'd cause problems.

Are you able to change settings via this website?

http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html

Maybe doing it directly through Adobe's site will help the settings stick. Alternately, what if you try launching the game directly from your hard drive, instead of Steam? Launching Steam in admin mode might not affect NEO Scavenger, but if you launch the game directly in admin mode, maybe that will help?

My copy of the game is found here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\NEO Scavenger

Let me know if that helps!

Tried to change on the website and launching the exe with admin mode with the same resulst as usual, still keeps reverting.

I use norton antivirus is there a chance that it might be blocking the local saving?

EDIT: I also noticed that I do not have the default save folder. in C:\Users\.33\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player there is no #SharedObjects

I'm able to save, and resue - but if I close the Neo Scavenger window, I lose the saves - just comes up with "no save data available"

downloaded version (not steam), W7 64bit

searches find no .sol files on my compter anywhere.

@Friedrich, if changing the settings through the official Adobe site doesn't stick, then it sounds like another app is resetting those values on you. The usual suspects here would be:

Cookie Removal Software (e.g. CCleaner)
Browser Privacy Plugins (e.g. Better Privacy, Noscript) Note that any installed browser might have the offending plugin.
Antivirus Software

I did come across a suggestion on Adobe's site which might help:

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/989928

Basically, they use "Process Monitor" to identify which application is running a delete command on that folder. In your case, it sounds like the issue is something controlling your Flash settings, but perhaps it's also deleting that folder?

@agtravecru, it sounds like your issue might be related to the types of software I mention above (cookie cleaners, etc.). This is especially since you're getting save files until the game is shut down, which sounds like a process that cleans cookies after the app that created them is finished. Do you have any such software for blocking/removing cookies?

Also, if you're looking for .sol files, I wouldn't trust Windows search to find them. Windows's file search feature has been pretty unreliable in my experience. The easiest way to look for the files would be to look for the following folder (since you're on Win7):

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\RandomString\localhost\games\NEO Scavenger\NEOScavenger.exe\nsSGv1.sol

Note that some portions of the above path are unique for each user:

\UserName\ - replace this with your user account name on Windows (whatever username you log into Windows with)
\RandomString\ - each user has a random string here, so you'll have to navigate to the folder above this to see
\localhost\games\NEO Scavenger\ - this depends on where your NEO Scavenger game is installed. For a typical Steam install, it might look like "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\NEO Scavenger\"

Try manually navigating to the path described above, and see if the files are being deleted after you close NEO Scavenger.

Sorry for the late reply, I do have CCleaner installed on the computer which i was running into the issues on but I'm currently on a different computer and the saves are working fine, I will try to mess around in CCleaner to try and fix it as soon as I can.
Thanks for all the help Dan and best of luck to you!

Sweet, thanks for the update! And for letting future readers know, too!

thanks, found it - and yeah, as soon as i close flash it clears for some reason.

made a shortcut to the folder (hope the random string doesnt change) and will just backup each save manually.

Glad to hear that you found it! If the directory gets cleared when the game is closed, there's probably an app or browser plugin doing it. If you're interested in fixing that, you'll need to adjust settings in the corresponding app/plugin.

If you're unsure which app is doing it, you can also use that "Process Monitor" trick linked above. Hope this helps!

Dear dc,

I am experiencing the same issues as Friedrich, where when I ask to save the game, it says "Error: Unable to access save data location".

I am playing Neo Scavenger on Steam (even playing it on Desktop does not fix this issue), Windows 7 64-bit and everything seems to similiar where the settings for shared folder reverts to zero automatically. I cannot find the #RandomString folder i.e. no C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects. It just says SharedObject is a file and not a folder.

I tried to follow the Process Monitor but can't find any program that has a "delete" action.

Kinda stuck. I've gone to the glow and more in one hour sitting but when I have to go afk I do need to save it and more likely than not, it's cause of this I have to restart :/

For anyone having an issue saving, navigate to your Control Panel -> Flash Player (under System and Security if your view is set to categories).

In the Storage tab make sure it isn't set to "Block all sites from storing information on this computer". Or optionally, leave it set at that but make an exception for the website listed as "Local" by clicking the "Local Storage Settings by Site" button.

Once you have that sorted NEO should be able to save next time you start it.

Did all of the above, still no dice.

Hey SpartanDee,

Do you have any Windows settings which might be hiding the files from you? E.g. are system files hidden, or anything like that?

And are you saying that you have:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects

but that #SharedObjects is being shown as a file, not a folder?

Dan Fedor - Founder, Blue Bottle Games

I've set the hidden files to show already and yes the #SharedObjects appears as a file as pic below;

IMAGE(https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/t31/1781133_10202627211260025_1434048522_o.jpg)

Well, that's a new one to me. And I'm having trouble finding cases of that via Google, too.

My first idea would be to delete that #SharedObject file, to see if Flash tries to recreate it. It's possible that something went awry when Flash tried to create it last time, causing it to be created as a file instead of a folder.

If that doesn't work, maybe try to create it manually? I might try creating the #SharedObject folder manually first, and see if Flash fills in the rest for you.

Barring that, what if you go all the way and create the entire folder structure for NEO Scavenger?

E.g.
C:\Users\SpartanDee\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\{Random}\localhost\{PathToNEOScavenger}\NEOScavenger.exe\nsSGv1.sol

You could try any random word, or something specific like "EE95AWMA". The {PathToNEOScavenger} is just the list of folders starting after your drive letter. E.g. Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps...

Do any of these steps help?

Dan Fedor - Founder, Blue Bottle Games

Well I got good news and bad news.

The bad news is that I did try creating it manually e.g. as above and it didn't work.

The good news is that I deleted the #SharedObject file and IT WORKS!

It created the path structure like normal and it is saving games as it should :D

W00t! You are truly awesome Mr. Dan. Thanks for the help and thanks for this awesome game!

Time to hunt me some Dogman meat...

Huh, I'm not sure what happened there, but I won't argue with success!
