Can't Load Saved Game

I'm having an issue where I can't load my saved game at all. When I press the "continue" button it just toggles the image of the button to the brightened up state, then nothing else happens. I am playing v0.969b from the website using chrome. I searched to see if this issue has come up before, but I found nothing.

Hey Hellequine,

The first thing we should check is whether save files are being created or not. The following link shows where you can find the save files for each browser/OS, and the fourth listed one is for Chrome:

Do you see any files there? And when you save a game, is a file nsSGv1.sol either created or updated in that folder?

If not, your Flash settings may be preventing from saving Flash cookies (sharedobjects) on your computer, which would prevent saves from working.

Alternately, if the file is there, is it being deleted either when closing the browser or periodically? Sometimes, browsers, browser plugins, or other antivirus/antispyware software can indiscriminately delete all Flash cookies, which would also kill the save files.

Also, is this a problem with any save game, or just the most recent one? I forgot to ask earlier, but there's a possibility that the save game was corrupted somehow, and perhaps that may cause the load process to bail out.

Let me know if any of the above helps. Hopefully, we can get you on your feet again soon!

Thanks for the reply. I checked where the saved games are supposed to be located, but instead there are just folders with random strings of letters. I didn't have any issue before saving and loading the game even after closing the browser, I guess it just got corrupted somehow.

If I remember correctly, the random strings folders are how Flash stores temporary cookies, which might be the case when a site is allowed to save cookies for the current session only.

If you'd like, you can paste the path in which you're searching in this thread, and I can take a look. Sometimes, the path itself has clues as to the nature of the problem (e.g. a parallel folder for the demo, etc.)

I made a snapshot of the path I was using and what was found inside. Each of the folders have a file named "00000001.sol"

I have since saved over the game data and seem to have no problems now, but I'm still seeing the random strings. Thank you for investigating my issue.

I was able to replicate those results when I changed Chrome from allowing all cookies to denying all cookies. I end up seeing the ##RandomString/00000001.sol as well. And when I change the cookie settings back to "allow" for all, the browser keeps updating the 00000001.sol file, even if I delete the folders and close the browser.

Strangely, though, the demo version seems to create normal flixel.sol files with no random string folders. It seems like only the beta is affected this way. However, the beta should be creating flixel.sol and ngSGv1.sol files, and I know I've seen it do so before. So perhaps there's a setting I'm not seeing, or I broke something in the beta.

As you point out, the random string version does seem to work for now, but I'll have to look into it more when I'm back at my dev machine, because something seems fishy.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and do let me know if the saves start acting up again!
