Latest update has rendered this game unplayable for me.

So I've really been loving the game, but since the update two or three days ago, I've been experiencing a fairly serious bug.

Very frequently when I enter a fight or try to scavenge, the confirm button will become completely non-functional. I won't be able to leave that screen or take any actions, and there's just no way out of there.

I feel really obligated to have a witty, funny signature, but I'm not witty or funny so I'm not going to do that. Instead, here is my name:

Hey Keir.Anderson,

Which version of the game are you using? The version number and date are listed below the logo on the title screen. The latest should be v0.968b 4/16/2013. Also, are you using the Flash version or downloadable version, and on which platform/browser?

I haven't run into the issue you're describing since v0.967b, so my first hunch is that you might have an out-of-date build.

Another possibility is that the button itself might be bugged, but the hotkey for it still works. Admittedly, I tend to use the spacebar instead of clicking the button with the mouse, so if the button breaks, I might not have noticed. Does the spacebar work in these situations?

Lastly, is it possible that there is loot attached to the cursor? This would more often be the case with scavenging than combat, but any time a single item is dropped as loot, it gets attached to the cursor instead of dropped on the ground, so the player doesn't miss it. The screen won't advance until that item is put down someplace.

Let me know if any of the above helps, and which version you're using. Hopefully, we can get you up and running again soon!

The version I'm playing is definitely v0.968, I'm sure.

I'm playing the downloadable version in Adobe Flash Player, and my operating system is windows 7 home premium.

Thank you for the advice regarding the space bar, that worked perfectly. It's still mildly irritating that the mouse is no longer functional for that, but I'm actually able to play it now and I appreciate the help.

Thanks :)

That's strange. I'll have to start testing that button with the mouse in different situations, to see if I can reproduce the issue you're seeing. It should definitely get fixed!

I'm glad to hear you're able to work around the issue with the spacebar, though. Hopefully, that will do until I can figure out what's causing the problem!

I have also run into this problem using the downloadable version. It seems to only happen occasionally when fighting multiple opponents.

EDIT: Actually, this may be a different problem altogether. I just happened to me again, and pressing spacebar didn't work, and pressing the button to switch enemies did nothing either. There was no way out of this except for quitting the game it seems. Sucks, I had been playing for awhile.

If it matters, this was the downloadable version on windows 7. I downloaded it yesterday on 4/19 so it should be the latest version correct?

Hello again. I'm sorry to report this, but it seems that using space bar rather than the mouse to confirm actions is not consistently functional. Up until now it was a perfectly workable solution, but in my most recent fight both the space bar and mouse were useless.

I screencapped both the encounter screen and item screen and included links to both, in case those are relevant.

Thanks in advance.

While I haven't run into non-functional buttons yet, I did run into a few bugs involving creatures and battles on Friday. At least one of those issues could be related to the broken UI, since it causes a null pointer that can screw up the game. The issue tends to happen after a group of creatures is spawned (e.g. more than one raider, melonhead, etc.) and at least one of them is killed.

I think I have fixes for those issues, and I plan to upload a new build this week.

Thanks for the info, guys! Your notes helped me reveal at last one bug!

PS: One last-ditch thing you can try in these stuck situations is to save, quit, and reload. In theory, that should clear up any bad memory pointers, which I think are the cause here. It's not a guarantee, but it's worth a shot if you're ready to quit anyway. However, I should hopefully have a new build ready soon!

I look forward to the next build and thank you for your prompt and helpful responses to my queries. Glad that my notes were helpful to you :)

Also saving and reloading doesn't help, so I'll probably just wait till the next build to keep playing.

FYI Keir and Murmur, the latest build update (0.969) has some fixes which should hopefully address the issues you noted. Give it a shot, and let me know if it seems improved.

Thanks again for your help and patience!

Seems like it's fixed for me. I played for an hour or two and fought multiple groups of enemies and haven't run into the problem again. Good work on the fast bug fixing, I'll be sure to post any other game breaking bugs if I run into them.

Cool, glad to hear it! And thanks for testing the new build!
