persistence of camp sites (tents, sleeping bags, etc.)

I built a tent in a spot, hoping to use that hex as a "base" of sorts... but when i roamed around and came back, it wasnt there. Even though the hex was marked as a campsite (triangular tent icon). Is this by design? Or, how do you maintain equipment at a spot?

Basically, all items stay in camps (or even on the ground where you left them) but can be found and picked up/stolen by looters/bandits/raiders (I don't think dogmen pick up stuff) roaming the countryside (you can find them and reclaim those items, they don't disappear).
As far as I know different campsites have different chance of being looted, with more hidden places being obviously better places to hide away your stuff (inside abandoned house is better than open field and so on) but exact stats are unknown to me, my guess is that second room of cryo-lab is most secure one. However there are no 100% safe spots.

I think the assumption is that scavengers steal from campsites.

I remembers something about raiders being attracted to the fire.

Edit: Kaaven beat me to it this time.

Ah that makes sense then. My tent is big though-- i guess they ignore inventory capacity limits? Or its assumed they just destroyed it.

I like knowing this game is deeper than i thought!

Someone recently reported a bug in which they stolen a campfire from him and later he killed the looter and reclaimed it :D So probably them taking the whole tent is a bug as well...
