Hex Tile/Scavenging Locations Ideas

Post your ideas for special hex squares apart from the usual caravans, cities, forests etc. Here are mine, and I'll edit it when you guys come up with more ideas.Hex SquaresHighway: You go much faster on these with less movement points expended, but so do enemies as well! They usually lead to cities and towns, but there is a highway leading out of the facility. It also gives the world a bit more of a connected feel. If cars are put in, driving on tiles with highways on them would be safer and reduce breakdowns. Mine Field: This appears on fields, highways and very rarely cities. Laid by bandits protecting their turf, the military trying to stop civilians from trying to escape their cities during the early stages of the attack or just survivalists trying to stop the dogmen from getting in. You can tell early via the darker patches on the tiles. If you go on one, you immediately go into an encounter. You would have to use your skills or your life will be in the RNG's hands. Botany (What part of the grass is disturbed), eagle eye (That bit of dirt is dug up!), athletics (Be very fleet of foot or be blown sky-high!)... whatever skill would make sense to be able to get through a mine field.Bandit Camp: Dangerous! Bandits spawn here in large groups, scavenging around and bringing back ammo and weapons. Sneak in here and get their stuff, you get the jackpot. If you get spotted... You won't enjoy what is left of your short life. Smallholding/Commune/Farm/Shanty: Occupied or not, could give a
trading encounter, a chance for normal scavenging, an opportunity for
theft, etc. Of course, one could also get other types of food there.Cave: It's dark in there. There might be grues. Or more edible mushrooms than you can possibly imagine!Abandoned Laboratory: Could provide high tech stuff as salvage, or could make you mutate.Factory: Good place to find tools or a larger amount of metal scrap than normal.Scavenging LocationsGarage: An ordinary garage. This is where cars will probably be found, but for now you can get most tool items here.Supermarket: Hope you packed a plastic bag! Kidding, you'll never find anything here apart from empty bottles and scrap, and some good food items on occasion. Exceedingly common.Sporting Goods Store: Baseball bats, football armor, hunting ammo (But no rifles...). Only problem that it's rare to find good items here, since they are often the first to be looted.Gun Store: Boo-yah! If you need gun, you'll find em here. Incredibly rare, and there is a very good chance they'll be a bandit pointing a gun at you when you go in. However, the pay-off is excellent. Rifles (And other guns if they get made) galore.

Great ideas! Just a point though - it's a hex tile, or just a hex. Hex squares are impossible, as squares do not have six sides. Hex = hexagonal. Gettit? As a boardgamer, you have made me rage so much, that I have put my purple shorts on and painted myself entirely green. I hope your happy with yourself. :pAnyway. Highways are a great idea, but how would they feel right in a completely random world? I can imagine lots of them making twisty routes that go nowhere. Sure, you could argue that the places it once lead to are long destroyed, but random worlds often just feel wrong.Smallholding/Commune/Farm/Shanty - Occupied or not, could give a trading encounter, a chance for normal scavenging, an opportunity for theft, etc. Of course, one could also get other types of food there.Cave - It's dark in there. There might be grues. Or more edible mushrooms than you can possibly imagine!Abandoned Laboratory - Could provide high tech stuff as salvage, or could make you mutate.Factory - good place to find tools or a larger amount of metal scrap than normal.

Trollin' boardgamers: My day is complete.Just kidding. I'll fix the error. Highway issue: It should be that they only lead from or to special hexes, or else they don't happen. If a highway generates that starts in a field and leads to a forest, it shouldn't be allowed and deleted. It should have a list of tiles it can begin or end on.

My own idea for a scavenging locationPharmacy/Hospital: Sterile gauze, first aid kits, random pills, and other medical things. Most of the stuff has been looted but you can usually find a band-aid if you look hard enough. Word of warning, unless you know what the pills are don't take them, you can find anything from aspirin to cyanide to a experimental combat drug.

And you could identify the pills with the Medic Perk.

Abandoned mine (metal scraps, tools); military base (more likely to generate encounters than actual loot, but if you get loot it's more likely to be useful weapons or tools); grocery stores (plastic bags, water/drink bottles, food items, encounters).  Animal lairs (encounters or loot; pretty random because it would be what was left over from the animal's last food source).

What about the good old fuel station. Most things would be gone but you could find a car (needs fixing) or trailer that can be made in to cart just add some type of animal. Police/Fire Station  guns, bullet proof vests, axes, hoses and always donuts.Mobile home fort. Rednecks made their trailer park into a fort/town. Need to bring beer before they will trade with you. Pet store. If the dev adds pact animals you would need to find theses to stop your animals getting sick.Old Farm Pond.  Good spot for fishing and other food. You may meet animals coming there to drink. Bomb shelter.  You would need to have eagle eye to find them lots of loot. Jail.   Is it empty or full of bandits City run farms.  The D.M.C. needs lots of food to stay alive. You can only go to them with out dieing after you can get in to the city.    For on the highways car graveyard. As fuel ran out people just left there cars in one big road block. Loot cars, SUV's and trucks.

Old Farm pond... nice idea.  And to go with it the crafting recipe: Stick + 4 bits of string + one bit of wire + multitool = multitool + fishing pole.  Fishing skill to complement botany and trapping (or maybe it's part of trapping) and the added flaw (for additional skill slots) of "allergic to fish".
