Ostranauts Teaser #2

Hey Folks!

Got a treat for you today: a new teaser video!

So what's new?

We found this dusty old UVD on a derelict sitting in an asteroid shadow. Parts of it are irrecoverable, but the shipboard RST console was able to playback this portion.

Ostranauts Teaser #2

While we've been hard at work on new features and mechanics, Modern Wolf and BBG teamed-up to create a new teaser that takes a different tack: revealing some of the universe which players will navigate, and types of stories a captain might tell.

If this sounds interesting to you, please wishlist Ostranauts on Steam here. Wishlisting it will give me an idea how much interest there is in this game, and how much time I can spend on it.

And if you know anyone else who might dig this type of game, let them know! Spreading awareness is something everyone can do to help me continue to make games like this.

Thanks for your time, and stay tuned for more spacelife news!

This looks great! The music starting from 1:20 very much sounds like it was inspired by Mass Effect.

Oh, yeah. I remember the first time I saw the animatic, the same thing went through my head. I think Oliver mentioned who did the pieces on Slack. Lemme check...

It's There Is Something Here, by Max H.

Oliver is the videographer on the trailer, and I think he did a great job choosing pieces to fit the mood!

When it came to the part that said "in a long long time" my mind was flooded with memories of scouring Earth's ruins for artifacts over many long hours. I could feel the epic continuity between Neo Scavenger and this. It gave me goosebumps.

Awesome! Weaving the fabric of a rich, detailed world is one of my biggest goals. So hearing that folks are emotionally engaged is really heartening.

This looks absolutely amazing, can't wait to get my hands on it. I just wonder, are we still going to be able to try going to Earth ? (kinda wanted to see if Detroit had a spaceport) Also, wasn't the reason for Earth's demise economic collapse as well as the appearance of impossible creatures ? Does the fact that Earth only is restricted mean that those phenomenons are limited to there only ? I guess this will be explained in game, but I admit that I would have liked that these reality bending creatures be everywhere in the universe. Anyway, I'm so hyped for this and I know I'm not the only one. =)

The only potential problem I'm seeing is that the teaser tells nothing about what kind of game it is (except it's obviously about space, and Earth is apparently a big deal in it?) to newcomers.
I'd probably guess it's something like Freelancer if I knew nothing about it.

@Maximus79, I think players will still try to get to Earth, but Earth orbit is a literal death trap. So I'm not expecting many attempts to succeed.

And what if they do succeed? I'm not sure what happens then. I mean, does it become a game of NEO Scavenger? Or just a specialized port, similar to the rest of the System's ports?

Plus, climbing the gravity well is a lot harder than falling into it, and I doubt anyone would be lucky enough to traverse it twice. So are players basically stuck down there if they succeed?

It's a lot of questions. And I don't have good answers yet.

What I can say, though, is that Ostranauts is pretty much concurrent with NEO Scavenger. So while Philip is down there scrounging, our captain is up here eking out a living. And since nobody can survive orbit, it's a moot point.

What's more, I could imagine some more enterprising (and desperate) types to dip their toes into upper orbit, to snag some old Earth tech before they're shredded apart.

I think we'll still see some lore mining around Earth. Just not landing on it.

@Rovlad, that's true. But it's safe to follow-up with a more traditional gameplay trailer closer to launch. (Notably, when I finally get this damned game loop solid :)

In this teaser, we're mainly highlighting the setting, tone, and types of stories this world might generate. For some, this is the hook that will hopefully draw them in to learn more!
