Hey Folks! Another whack of fixes and data today to get the ailments further stabilized and accurate. I've got most of them in and running now without undue fatalities, plus some clicking and sensor bugs that crept in over the changes.
But more exciting news awaits, so let's turn now to that!
I was able to pull Michael's maintenance mode changes, and it was pretty cool seeing them in action! Our test case is to load a ship, (optionally) suit-up the crew in an EVA suit, then hit a debug key to randomly damage the ship. Then, we use a debug button to toggle maintenance tasks on, and the AI takes it from there!
In this case, we have Ashley Pruitt suited up in the reactor and HVAC room. A damage ray has collapsed the wall on the bottom of the room, plus some floor tiles there.
With maintenance mode active, Ashley grabs the first hull patch from the ground and applies it to the floor (hard to see here through the wall debris). And when that's done, she grabs the second patch to apply to the wall (seen as the red square beneath the conduits).
All of that was done on autopilot. I just had to sit and watch. And had there been more hull patches, she'd have grabbed those, too.
Eventually, we'll need some repair interactions added so crew can not only slap hull patches down, but can use tools to rebuild walls more formally. E.g. using a laser torch and drill to weld/attach scraps and seal broken walls/floors. Not to mention other, more complex, tasks.
It's a pretty cool improvement, though! I mentioned to Michael that it felt like a real game for a few minutes :)
