I was just running away then the time kept going so I saved and quit and I worked just want to tell you.
Ooh, this might be the elusive and infamous "endless turn bug." I was hoping that I had squashed that with the recent changes, but if it's still happening, there must be another cause.
Which version of the game are you running right now? Downloaded or web, and is it Windows, Mac, or Linux? And on the title screen, below the logo, what is the version number/date?

Ok, thanks. That's what I was afraid of. This means the bug is still in the game, despite some changes I made to try and fix it.
Were you running away on the map when it happened? Or was it during combat?
I'm not the OP, but I just hit this bug yesterday so I figured I'd toss in my two cents.
I got the endless turn bug when running away from a swarm of Melonheads (~5). I retreated from combat with them and had no moves left, so I had to end my turn. That's when the bug showed up. My stats started to go down like I was ending my turn over and over again (Also a bit like I had hit the 'Rest and Heal' button, but I didn't have any visible action buttons on my UI), although none of the NPCs visible on the board moved while this was happening. I didn't have any perishables on my person, so I don't know if it affects those or not.
For what it's worth, I found out that pausing and opening the main menu, saving and quitting, and then continuing fixes the issue, although you'll be stuck with whatever your stats were when you quit.
*Waits patiently for the addition of Carroltron*
I found that out to luck fully.
I had something similar to this, apart for all my NPCS were moving, and a drastic drop in thirst and hunger.
I was in combat then I think I retreated for a bandit then it started to happen my food and water went down but they were full so I lived. Love this game even with bugs.
Ok, maybe that will be my next test, then. I'll try getting into combat a few times, retreating with 0 moves left, and see if I can trigger it. This bug is definitely enemy #1 right now!
o0m-9 describes the situation well.
for me it was retreating from a dogman with 0 moves, i ended my turn then he moves on to me, then its endlessly skipping turns with no combat.
I still can't seem to make this happen at will. But it's good to see some similarities between cases. That should help narrow things down. I'll keep looking, thanks!
I have had this bug, but not running from combat (I know, because I don't run normally). Twice it has happened. The first time I cannot recall exact detail so I'll ignore. Second time, I was at the Cryo Lab camp sterilising (note the s, no I'm not American) water and ran out of moves. It was dusk; there were several enemies in adjacent hex's although it turned night so I couldn't count. Enemies don't normally attack the camp so I guess no movement in or out, but probably plenty beside the hex. Running Demo version.
At first I thought it was simply part of the demo, that you gave us a limited amount of time to play around, then I noticed it was less than 4 days I survived which was stupidly short.
Yeah, I think you've hit the endless turn bug. Sorry about that! It's still active in 0.980 versions, and tends to happen randomly due to NPC activity.
The good news is that I think I've found a way to reproduce the bug in my debug version, and I'm working on a fix that should be ready in 0.981. Thanks for the heads-up!
I just experienced this bug in my last two games. Both times I was surrounded by NPCs and I was hiding in a town, using the Rest + Heal to pass time until dawn. Suddenly it just skips turns until I die of dehydration. Playing v0.980b on Steam.
Sorry, Icenor! I think the situation you were in was almost the perfect trigger for that bug. It's what I use recently when testing the latest build, in fact.
I hope to have a new build with a fix uploaded soon, though!
