First time I'm messing with this mod so I have a few questions please! :)
-I'm currently walking around wearing 2 x Left side of the yellow boots with no penalties to movement or Footwear. Bug?
-When I make a makeshift Broad Spear and stab something with it and it breaks, for some reason it reverts to Sharpened Stick and copies itself and drops a Hardened Spear on the ground in the zone. Bug?
-Adding the Claw Hammer to the Skeleton disassembly recipe (when aiming for bones/shards) randomizes the amount of bones and shards. Constantly doing it for some reason made me get up to 6 bones at one point of a Skeleton. Bug?
-What is the "Pile Of Various Mechanical Components" for? Haven't found a recipe using it yet. :(
-Tarp poncho is basically to keep you from getting wet correct? No Warmth/Insulation value?
-Ceramic jars can be used to cook things 'one-off' in before they break...but turning into a broken bottle afterwards? I think that's sorta a stretch isn't it? Haha
-Any use for the animal skulls really? I can't bludgeon anyone with them or throw them or smash them. :(
-We can't currently disassemble the gaming consoles with Electrician?
Nice shoes you got there. Would be a shame if I was to stab you and take them...
- Ammount of bones and shards should always be randomized.
- Pile of mechanical components is pretty much what it says it is :D It is used in making of Spring and Air Guns, although one will last for several craftings.
- Skulls are for fluff/atmosphere only. You can sell them too.
- Tarp Poncho provides a bit of both warmth (very little though) and insulation
As for the rest, will have to run some tests and fix bugs if I manage to find them :D
Another bug for you in the Data Reclamation quest. When handing in DVDs that stack in 3, it only counts as 1 Participate Credit and not 3. To get all your credits, you need to Shift-click each one and hand the quest in 3 times or click the stack and lose 2 Credits.
Thats not a bug. That's sadly how the game works - no way around it. Sorry.
Do Crayons have any use currently? Scratching my head to see if they're worth anything besides the $5 price tag. :P
That and I've done the employment office in Detroit but I can't seem to find the other job areas besides the Knowledge Reclamation jobs. Are the other ones in yet, seeing that we can write the tests for Mechanic, Botany etc or not yet?
- When taking a bath in any water source, it consumes Action Points yet can still be done at 0.00 with the intended effect. Is this intentional of the mod or due to design mechanics, there's no workaround?
> - Also even when filthy and parasite ridden, at times the menu option at a body of water for use of the detergent/paste doesn't show up. Does the character have to be a certain level of infected for the option to show up?
- Stainless Steel Ladle has any use? Been trying to whack people over the head with it. XD
Crayons - nope, you can safely sell them ;)
Reclamation is the only job to be had, for now at least.
Action Points - that the core game's fault, nothing I can do. The game will let you finish any action, if you have any amount of AP left. So you can still travel to the next hex (1km) even if you have 0.01 AP only. Same with any ither action. And for the encounters, its even worse - there is no check to make to see if player has any moves, meaning he can still participate even with 0 AP.
The option to use detergent/paste only appears if you have parasites. If you are simply dirty, it does not show up since it does nothing then - water alone is enough.
And ladle is exactly for head-smashing, Hobbit-style!
A use for nails.
Can you call upon campsites during crafting?
If so, perhaps you could turn a bunch of large branches, medium branches, nails and a field campsite into a makeshift shelter. It would have a little better status than a field, but less than say, a cabin.
Rar! Rar rar rar! Thanks for reading :)
As far as I am aware - no, modification of a pre-existing campsite isn't possible. I think it might be possible to create new campsites, although I am not sure. That would basically double the effect of the tarp shelter, but yeah - will have to look into it.
Crayons can be used as candles, btw-idk how easy it would be to implement, but they could be used as a light source for scavenging or exploring, somewhat better than a lighter.
I prepared Explosive Runes this morning!
I know, I know. Problem is with the usefulness - in real life, those could be use for an emergency quality-of-life lighting.
However in the game, the timescale is such that it does not make sense - you cannot really scavenge with light this weak and whimsical - unlike a lighter which can be re-lit at will, once the crayon or even a real candle gets blown out, you would have to apply a lighter to re-light it anyway... And the whole box would last you roughly an hour, so a single turn. With the absolute ease with which one can make a torch, it hardly matters.
Here's a suggestion: putting the Ember from a fire into a tin can and carrying it around so it provides character heat and a quick fire source pre-lighter/matches. Is that possible to create in-game or a limitation?
I thought of it based on the hobo stove idea but none of them are carry-able at all.
You can already carry Embers in jars/cans (fireproof containers) to start fires elsewere. Should last around 6 turns/hours or so.
Quick unrelated question, what's a good website where I could allow people to download a mod from for free?
Mediafire is what I use. A bit clunky, but works just fine. There are others as well, Dropbox or even Google Drive, but I have not used those, so am not sure. Mediafire though, its good enough.
Thanks! I've been wanting to release my extreme settings 'mod' for a while. Just wanted to know what the best site to use would be, they all advertise that they're the best...
there is also MEGA and if you have a windows account there is OneDrive. MEGA is nice, and simple. You get 50GB free, just don't ever go over that limit or you will be locked out for months before the "deletes" you made finally open up the room.
DevKit is an upgraded BBC mod.
Improve your mods.
God, you must be sick of questions about this amazing mod at this point x)
Anywho I simply wish to ask whether or not you have any intention on adding some additional crafting functionality/interactions for hacking in the future or another means of obtaining the completely annoying to obtain software ?
" The devil asked me how I knew my way around the halls of hell. I told him I need no map for I know the darkness well "
I like questions, except the ones I have already replied to before :D
I am planning an update in the near future, since I was on hiatus for so long. But when it comes to crafting software, it is somewhat... wonky, to be honest - computers and data files are not the most stable part of the game.
But if anyone has any ideas, I might listen - probably won't do it, but an idea rejected is still better than no ideas at all ;)
Well Kaaven, i suppose i might pitch this idea: in the off topic wasteland create a thread, link to it in your page here, and call it the FAQ. Might cut down on repeated questions.
i say create a thread because i imagine editing this webpage must not be fun, with a link you can keep their long walls of text separate.
I really just meant the "how to install" questions. All else, even if somewhat repeated, I actually like to see here. Not everyone has to know all the data, after all :D
Hmmm... I have a random question. Is there an area where it's easier to find hazmat suit pieces? I've found the boots and mask, but that's about it.
Also, 'fallout' like power armor that gives you added protection when it has power. I don't know if that's doable, but hey, nothing else to ask. The idea here being if it can be added.
Random buildings can drop all the hazmat bitz, just like every other clothing type, boots and gloves being more common than the other parts. You can also buy pieces on the market as well.
And yeah, power armor would be totally possible. Just, you know, a bit OP maybe :D Still, totally doable.
SO what's the nutrient re-synthisis kit do?
It turns any organic, non-processed food bits (raw meat, berries, mushrooms) into edible Nutrient Paste. Paste is always edible, even when made from poisonous or rotten foodstuffs, so it is a great way for people without proper identification skills or space to still utilaze all those random bits of food alyways lying around.
I think you may have broken the cryo lab scene. The security footage and multitool don't appear, and the medkit is always empty.
Also, the locker in the exam room disappears after you check it, and the recipes for the lighting and HVAC don't appear.
What does the Ham Transceiver do?
Also, the Dress Shirt layers funny.
Nothing :D Had an idea to make using it detect some semi-random radio signals, depending on where you were on the map, but it turned out way more complicated for what it was possibly worth. So the radio is just a relatively valuable vendor trash.
Well, what would the radio signals have done?
Nothing, 90% of time :D
The idea was to be able to sometimes catch a Mutha, Guards or Hope's End transmissions, talking about some random stuff. Like, couple of out of context lines of dialog really. There were supposed to be a small chance to get a message which would reveal one of 3-4 mini-locations, containig extra loot or something as an incentive to listen at all.
Still, it would have been a crap-ton of writing and the system itself... well, let's just say I didn't managed to work out exact details of how it would work ;)
Hey, you said the Steel Ladle would be usable for boiling water, but I'm using MmMod .99 and it doesn't do it. What gives?
Also, can the Fox Hat be crafted from a dead fox, or just looted?
To be honest, I don't remember saying the ladle will be used for cooking... But if I did, I must have added that to my to-do list. There was no update in a long while, so it probably still remains somewhere among my notes... Sorry.
And which "fox" hat do you have in mind? The Fur Hat, which was added a long time ago, if craftable from any fur bits similarly to the patchwork gloves. The "foxy" hood is not craftable, but it is not really made out of foxes... Its like a toy/costume kinda thingy, inspired by this concept picture.
I could dig up the comment about boiling water in a ladle.
And so noted, about the Foxy Hood. Shame, that. Would have been fun.
I kinda want to help brainstorm for the Ham Transceiver-the easiest/laziest way of doing it would be the way Subnautica does it-lootable 'signals' perhaps indicated by a scrap of paper with a radio frequency written on it?
Alternately, you could replace it with a Sound Recorder/Chips or new Audio files for the Laptop/Smartphone that have the same result. Doesn't need to have plausibly local enemies to eavesdrop on, doesn't need to write up a new system to indicate that there's stuff you could listen to with the Ham Transceiver, bada bing bada boom.
Alternately, just make it generate the Audio files at random.
Where I can find a motion sensor? does the junk market sell it or it comes from disassembling an electronic device?
Well, yeah, it could be done like that. What I wanted to do, was to make the player actually stop and use the Ham radio in a hope of catching a transmission. And reward those who do that with either an occasional snipet of lore (radio chatter from guard patrols, vulgar banter by Mutha raiders, etc.) and, sometimes, even some useful data (emergency broadcast leading to a cash of gear, S.O.S. signal from a small enclave being raided). Narrowing it down to collectible files does not feel like it, tbh. Still, any ideas are welcome, as that seems to be an interesting avenue to add something nice to the mod.
On a topic of adding stuff however - I recently lost a hard-drive with all my modding data on it, including a lot of unreleased content which was supposed to be added to the next updates. As such I cannot tell when/if any updates will be possible anytime soon.
If I remember correctly, the only way to find those sensors is by using Electrician skill while scavenging in offices and other such places (as in, it is not something that lies around for a random scavenger to pick up, and only people who know what they are doing can hope to aquire one).
Oh god, ouch. D:
Did it get stolen, or fail on you unexpectedly? There's data recovery places you can mail it to if it's the latter.
Nah, it just died one day... And there wasn't really all that much valuable on it to rationalize spending a lot of money on recovery. Just a bunch of sprites and texts gone. Am still trying different free recovery programs, but so far it seems like the most files got corrupted so yeah - just a bad luck.
If it was the spindle, you can freeze it, which'll make it more stable.
External hard drives are cheap, man-a terabyte for $100 US! Backups!
Kaaven, do the hazmat suit tend to generate heat? I have the upper and lower parts and I think they are rising the temperature to the point I could die from Hyperthermia (bathing takes the temperature level to normal), also two more questions:
Will be a next update and there is a chance to maybe slightly increase the odds for the Junk Market to sell hazmat parts? it is not impossible but very RNG to collect 3 separate parts and they degrade a bit fast, I'm really looking forward to go to the Black Swamp but not without proper protection.
Hazmat suit is, in terms of warmnes, exactly the same as wearing normal pants and long-sleeved shirt. So something else must be causing your character to overheat.
When it comes to the next update - I am not sure when, but I do plan one. And yeah, I will look into the chance for hazmat suit to show up. Maybe I will make it more common or add new place to look for it. We'll see.
It occurs to me that you could offer a bounty for Blue Frog sashes with either the DMC Guard or ATN.
Interesting idea... But do you really think any of those factions would actually do that? Cause both of those are essentially run by an elitis military force - the Warriors are a caste of a tribal society and the Guards are basically a mercenary company. Those kinds of groups don't tend to "out-source" their work in real world...
Another thing to consider is that anyone having such sash must have been close to a Frogger, making him a potential carrier. Do you think they would risk it? I purposefuly added a part where the sheriff in Hope's End talks about shooting Froggers on sight... No one wants to get near them - which is, in my opinion, ironically the strenth of the Frogger sect. Cause anyone else would just got "purged" by any larger faction in the area. But no one sane will touch the Church with a ten feet pole.
Except I see DMC Guards shooting Froggers all the time. Ditto ATN Warriors.
That's becaue the NPCs in this game are so stupid it's beyond human immagination :D
You can still run MmMod 0.99 saves in 0.999!
Misc Mechanical Parts still spawn, and my Multitool was replaced with a screwdriver, but it works.
Also, the Stack of Old Documents isn't considered an item of historical importance?
The mods cannot really break the saves, since they cannot change any actual game-systems. They can cause a lot of weird bugs, due to ID mismatches and such. But the saves should indeed work.
And the documents are meant to be more like a pile of useless papers of no real importance. Think less of Declaration of Independance or print-outs of supposedly missing government e-mails and more of little Samantha's primary school diploma or uncle Bob's car lease details.
They still explicitly mention documents in the mission statement, though. It should let you go "Oh, Bob existed and he leased a car at this place at this time-you could probably find a supply of car parts there" or "Oh, Samantha existed and she went to a school here, there's probably some good textbooks or low-end computer parts there."
Also, identified non-poisonous mushrooms aren't considered veggies for Shashlik-making purposes. Intentional?
Furthermore, a stack of UVDs counts as one item at the Depository-you have to break it up into singletons to get their full value.
Glad the shoes you get are Trucks-was afraid they were going to be the mod sneakers, which...aren't great.
The Motion Sensor Noise Trap kind of sucks. It's heavier and less effective than a pair of traditional ones, and on top of that it requires power. Given how rare the Motion Sensor is-it took me three games before I could find one-it could use some buffing.
So I actually started making some progress on a new update (finally...) and incorporated some of that feedback:
- documents are now a minor find, for the Archives
- made Sensor Trap almost twice as effective and weight half as before - over two kilos was indeed way too much
- also made Motion Sensor a bit more likely, if still very rare, to drop while scavenging
- made the sneakers lighter, since they also weighted way too much
About the shashliks - mushrooms ain't vegetables in general :D But really, the shashlik recipes I know don't usually involve any mushroom, hence I simply did not think about it. More shashlik-research required ;)
And the UVDs and general bulk-item using in encounters - Yeah I know. Tried to make it so that the game recognizes individual items instead of stacks, but from what I can remember there is something with the UI that prevents it from working as I would like it to. Will double check, but I would not keep my hopes up.
About the weight of items. The sad truth is this game is both too realistic and not real enough.
Real enough to add immersion in a survival theme. Not real enough to keep the immersion when things come into play like weight, or how weather is handled.
I actually blame it entirely (well, mostly at least) on the movement/turn system. The lack of ability to gradualy slow the player movement down is a massive set back for establishing a functional weight system. The whole turn-based movemen is, as a matter of fact. It is restrictive on so many fronts, it is realy hard to understate. While modding, every second issue crashes on that.
Hey, I was wondering how to install both this mod and BBC. Can someone link me a tutorial or something?
