Sounds good to me.
I'm okay with that.
For everyone, the next round has started
Wanderer of the Wasteland
Waiting on Fins before continuing. Please hold any further comments on the RP thread until then.
Will do during today's workday, in a few hours hopefully.
... our lifestyles, mores, institutions, patterns of interaction, values, and expectations are shaped by a cultural heritage that was formed in a time when carrying capacity exceeded the human load. (c) William R. Catton, Jr
Bloody hell, had some internet issues back then. Hope ya fellas won't mind.
Well, am I still in? I mean, I would understand if I got kicked out or something, but just to ask.
You're still in, good to have you back.
Lunasa's back! Great! :)
I think i have an idea how to get him in easily. See, despite this line in very 1st post of the official RP topic (which i guess Nemo can't edit anymore, post being too old for that to work):
Then she faced the three men. “Go get what you need and let’s meet again in the basement in two hours."
- i think, despite this, we can still have Lunasa's character to join the group from the start. Thanks to the fact that Lunasa's character has hiding. How about this: he hid in the room where Cat and 3 others were planning their initial steps, and at some point - possibly after Nails did that speech, - he revealed himself, peacefully, and expressed his wish to join the group. How he'd express such a wish, considering he's completely silent, and for what reason he'd wish to join, and why he was hiding in the room in the 1st place, and how he managed to get in the room without noone's noticing it - i have no idea; surely not so easy things to start an RP from, but at least this would allow him, inRP, to properly know the details of the job _despite_ not being there when Hatter was giving the job.
Obviouosly, Lunasa should know more about the character. May be part of his story is some past experience with one of people in the group, - or could be? Or may be he'll just reveal himself, and would follow and help the group without explaining a thing, and not paying attention to possible (i'd say, expected) questions and even threats from others, once he reveals himself? Perhaps Lunasa's character could be a part of the story not "talking" with other characters in the group, but "thinking" things - to himself, - in the official RP topic? %)
Just a quick idea though. Feel free to discard it, if it's bad for any reason.
I really like your idea, and implemented it in part. Basically, if you read the thread, I assume that he was at the initial brief and went to the junk market, but just only got back now, for whatever reason (Lunasa, feel free to get creative, possible conspiracy/ betrayal/ or just playing with paranoia type things you could insert here are endless). Now that we are all present, things should be able to flow pretty naturally.
For the future, if discussion as to a plan is going on, have as many back and firths with characters that have already spoken, as long as they don't take away someone else's choice. I'm trying to go with whatever the majority chooses, although I won't always guarantee it.
In general, discussions as to how to solve problems and tasks will be very important later on, so having them often and learning to play to your character's strengths will become essential. Once I get a decision from Lunasa/Silent, we'll be able to get going for real.
To all, something I forgot to mention. I want to avoid supernatural elements as much as possibly, so Dogmen, Enfield horrors and Melonheads will be replaced by animal equivalents in terms of danger and behaviour (Dogman= Grizzly Bear, Enfield Horrors= wolf pack, Melonheads= lone wolf).
I'm going to wait until tonight before starting a new round.
Oh my... Yep, you had to tell that earlier, Nemo... I've been naively sure we'll have "vanilla" Neo Scavenger flora and fauna as a base to expand on. Thing is, even if i'd edit my last post in the official RP thread, i'd still be unable to edit my 1st post there - and that one also had dogmen mentioned; twice, even. Say what, i'll edit the last one anyways, removing the mention, while i still can... Done!
We still didn't have any melonheads and horrors ever mentioned in the official RP topic, and if you'd ask me, - yep, i'm entirely fine if those will be not present in our story. But since dogmen are already mentioned, and i can't edit 'em outta my 1st post (after a while, edit button just goes away, i guess there is a timer), - will you allow dogmen to "stay"? Perhaps not as something unnatural, but mere mutation. A freak nuclear accident in the past, somewhere in New York region, one of big reactors leaking lots of radiation, something like this. Nothing "paranormal" - just a freaky mutation of wolves. By the way, reality has its examples of mad mutations alright, there is whole institute in Belorussia studying mutated plants and animals after Chernobil disaster. And sometimes even normal animals get unusually large in size. Like, http://i.ytimg.com/vi/eSWWSq714aQ/hqdefault.jpg . So what you say, Nemo, will you allow something like this to be "known" as a "dogman"?
Yeah ok, for simplicity's sake, Dogmen will be some weird mutation of either wolves or bears. As to Lunasa, I'm writing him in right now.
Yep, the way you did it is definitely better. Removes any question if Silent's in for his part of the pay, too - which my idea didn't. Well done!
Oh, and i'll refrain from proposing ways to insert any future players into the story; only tried for Lunasa since he's with us from before the official topic began. I just wish someone with an electrician skill would join at some point, though. But perhaps even without you could use an "NPC" when required in this role, anyways...
Or I'll just let you all get creative…
Sounds scary to me, yeah... When you say it like this. %)
And, forgot to say earlier, what you proposed about weekdays being ~once-a-day more relaxed participation - is OK with me, and weekends being more cooperative RP - also OK. The latter though, it'd help if we'd at least have some starting point in terms of time. Is 21:45 GMT for weekends still assumed to be the time?
Blue rot and a house full of loot, in a 1st looting encounter after leaving DMC. You certainly don't waste time, Nemo! Alright, i'll bite, for sure; just didn't expect it'd go that... Vivace, as italians call it. :)
On a more serious note, it'd help if you do a small combat, perhaps with something already badly wounded, just to show in practice how exactly you see it done. See, i considered to fight someone behind that stuck door of mine, but decided not to, simply because i'm not sure if i'd do it exactly right - and other players are watching, you know. No pressure!
DOn't worry, everything in due time… although I'll not make it quite as simple as giving you someone that would bleed to death if you just avoid them. And yes, maybe introducing Blue Rot already is a bit early, but I wanted a somewhat good reason for a recent double- suicide. Plus, having a bit more equipment is nice, especially for what's to come…
who knows… who knows but me (evil laugh)
Ditto. You monster. :D
I don't. Luckily, my part is rather simple - got me a detailed character, just playing it to his quirks is quite obvious. And nope, it's not "too early", Nemo; nothing is "too early" or "too late", in my opinion, if it's GM who does it. It just... is. A reality of the game, whatever GM makes it be. I didn't critisize; quite the opposite, in fact. I shared a bit of my surprise, an unfulfilled expectation for slower-paced development. It's good, not bad; predictability and fulfillment of all expectations - is a boring thing!
Oh, and for the future usage (perhaps in another game if not in this one) - one of best reasons for death of any number of NPC characters (however episodic) - is, imho, disagreement. Like, some NPC folks disagreed how to share loot (or whatever else which could drive 'em bloody crazy) - and "ooops", here they were, guns blazing, knives slicing, _X_ number of bodies whereever you need 'em be. And a bonus: players often reflect the situation, often subconsiously, to their own group. Which is absent when you give 'em just some bodies destroyed by a virus... Unless it's some bodies of some bacteriologists having some disagreement while working in a lab, of course.
And yeah, alright, i'll wait as long as it'll be until you'll show the rest of us how exactly you want 'em fights going, by making some. I didn't mean to hurry you about it, of course; just explained why it'd be helpful - imho - sooner than later, but i possibly can't know all your good reasons to timing, etc. So it was just a wish, which, i understand, nobody says is going to be fulfilled "automatically", or at all.
DOn't worry, didn't feel criticised.
I mean, I try and always create choices, with different consequences. As here for example… possibly great loot, but risk of infection/looters. I'm trying to reward clever team play, playing to your character's personalities and strengths and general ability to adapt to situations.
If I realise something was too easy, I'll compensate with something after, or the same way around. I also like to use situations like these to create in group tensions- i.e. how many are wanting to take greater risks for greater rewards? how are the different members perceived?
Essentially, this works (in my mind at least) on various levels, of which the main quest forms only one layer, if even.
Silly, Silly Nemo, with something like that, everybody will usually just walk out the door. Well, atleast most of them.
Also, a little bit nitpicky, but isn't Blue Rot supposed to be a pneumonic disease?
Yes, but the last stages of it are amongst other things blue blotches on the skin… and of course, if everyone is staying out, that's fine too.
Not nesessarily everyone, but my character in particular had that nasty infection when he was 6, nearly died, plus his "tough" feature is described mainly being from taking most safe decisions. I just _had_ to walk out with a character like this, you know. %)
As you can read now, there's a very particular reason why the first dead bodies encountered out there are riddled with blue rot…
looking forward to the reactions Cat is gonna get (just really hope it's not a bullet between the eyes without asking…).
By the way, Nemo, i think Cat has a gender identity trouble... Unless you'd fix this:
... but he hoped they would trust her medical experience when she would tell them that it wasn't very risky.
(my bold) :D
Thanks for the spot. Though interesting, I didn't intend to play her as a transgender person...
Didn't realize so much would happen so fast! I'm busy right now, but I'll have a post to add "tonight" (4:00-8:00 in the morning, GMT). I haven't vanished!
No worries, I'm waiting for you.
Done. Thank you!
To you all, preparation for our first combat
First of all, loved to read about the "ex- people". What a gem!
Combat is a go for everyone. Let's check out how well it works, and let's see how our characters dispatch of the enemy. For the future, I'll always do things like give you a brief perspective of the enemy, in order to give you an idea about equipment and possible stats. Also, depending on who attacks (or who got the element of surprise), they get the first move. In our case here, it's the group that can strike first. So, as you know, aim hard.
Combat is a go for everyone.
After you, sir. Even despite the hint they're comin' Nails' way. Once again, it'd be best to have a "canon" example of the process before i'd do it.
Otherwise Nails would probably just do what Philip did when i played Neo Scavenger today: two enemies both instakilled with a triple shot from the bow at short distance; like Nails, my current Philip runs with Ranged skill, too. But that would possibly be not so much RP fun, would it. :D
The example's up. Plus you're currently in a nasty stand off.
Sorry for the early attack, it just kinda fit in with my moves >:)
Also, there is nothing more crazy than willingly ripping apart a mans Achilles with a sharp and rusty lawnmower blade.
Not sure about the bleeding out part though. Also, hope you can cope with the counterattack.
I like it, hope you don't mind the counterattack…
To all, hope you don't mind the barrage of posts, but I wanted to do all of the bandits as single viewpoints in combat. Also, I'll let you time to answer, don't rely on Rob and Cat to work their way through the enemies.
Three guys down, two to go, and remember to add a bit of blood and slurred fight dialog :), not gonna lie, I thought my last post was hilarious.
Sorry for your leg… genuinely rolled the dice for that shot. But you know what they say, don't try and be a hero. I got you as having a bleeding upper right thigh and a destroyed left calf, currently lying in cover. For now you can only move on one knee, but I'd probably tend to the wounds...
Also, leave the rest for the others. Probably best anyway, given Rob's somewhat limited mobility now.
Yeah, and this turned into a massacre, only one guy is left, and he isn't getting out.
It's probably gonna be a sniper match, I'd say. I think Nails and Cat are both pinned. Rob is down and slipping in and out of consciousness. Silent is still quiet, making sure he doesn't waste ammo, and Eric is still in hiding too. Interesting though, that the two people with guns haven't used them yet.
Nice one Nails. Like the makeshift cover, and the realistic fighting. I guess you got Rob to blame for the lack of targets…
Only because you've shown an excellent example to follow, Nemo. Well... Almost because of that, and a bit because i tried. Nails' 1st fight, after all. So... Thanks! :)
Damn it, I replied before seeing that the door frame had been covered in gunfire. I guess I should take it in stride and take at least a hit for it. >.<
You can if you want to/ if you feel your character deserves it. It would be your only injury, but it would be severe, with lots of bleeding involved. Luckily, we won't be pinned down anymore, so however this ends, medical attention is available.
Well I'm not looking for an injury as such, but would hate to have cheated the system by not keeping track of responses. I leave the matter in your hands; I can imagine my character being spacey enough to take a hit and becoming cognizant of it only after the fight. Whatever you consider fairest as a GM is good with me.
Ok, as you are very fair about this, I am going to say despite running out into sniper fire, you'll get away with nothing but a graze shot on your right shoulder. This will also explain why you didn't notice.
Cheers for the covering fire Eric.
Yeah, even though I can't move yet, it helps.
I feel somewhat bad for knocking you out with whisky, but you'll thank me, I'm sure.
I had a similar problem. Started to post before Rob took out his attacker, and had a paragraph about Rob's enemy. I had to remove it with an edit, quickly.
There is a method to avoid such confusions in the future, gentlemen, which i will practice myself and offer for your consideration. It is: rather simply, have the RP topic open in a separate second browser tab, and refresh it after my would-be-now-posted post is ready to be posted. In case some new messages appeared during the time of creating the post - read them and account for events in them, if/as nesessary, then once again refresh the topic and repeat the process until there is no need to change anything in my post - then hit the post button immediatelly.
This way, similar confustions could be made exceedingly rare. :)
