Patch Testing, Save Files
Hey Folks! Mostly mobile patch work today, and a minor UI bug fix.
Tiago was able to check-in his save system upgrade, so we began testing the patch today. Currently, updating the app wipes saves, and this is one of the things we are trying to fix. There appear to be some special places on Android and iOS for saving files that don't get wiped on updates. And, as you might expect, both are completely different :)
The test involved updating our app (which wipes the current save), starting a new game, saving it, closing, and then updating the app to a new version to see if it retains the save. If all goes well, the second update won't wipe the save, and we can safely roll-out the patch.
Unfortunately, we've hit a snag. Two, in fact.
First, on Google Play, we successfully did the first few steps to get the update and create a save. However, we have to wait for the app store to show the new update before we can download it. And as of this typing, the new update isn't available yet on my phone (though it appears on the dev site). So I haven't been able to finish the Android test yet.
Secondly, iOS won't save. At all. It looks like our new save system broke something on iOS, and signs are pointing to a bad directory path. In theory, the fix here won't be long to implement. But finding the right path might take a while.
That's where I'll pick up tomorrow. Tiago's on vacation starting tomorrow, so this may be my first build deployment to the public. Assuming I can figure out this OS stuff, that is :)
